Hey, everybody. We got a great one today, you know, for a change. My guest is Paul

Tuff. He's one of my favorite authors on education. He's written a new book, The Years

That Matter Most, How College Makes or Breaks us. And this book is about how the admissions

process for college is pretty much designed to protect the privileged and lock in the economic

disparities in our country. It's an important book. The admissions process today is insane.

Colleges like Harvard and Princeton are sending letters to high school juniors and seniors

saying, we think you'd be a great candidate for Harvard or Duke or Princeton or Yale.

And the purpose is just to get more students to apply to these schools so that they can

reject them.

And this serves the purpose of getting the percentage of applicants who get in be as low as possible.

And that's a metric that U.S. News and World Report uses to rank schools in terms of selectivity.

This U.S. News and World Report ranking is a sham, as far as I am concerned, and

Paul Tuff is concerned.

Does U.S. News and World Report, by the way, actually put out news and a world report.

This list of theirs is their money-making scam.

Okay.

Now we have also the common application so students can fill out one application and apply to 20

schools across a range of how selective the schools are in college counselors in affluent schools,

tell the kids to go to the most selective college that accepts you because that confers status.

Now, Paul Tuff has written about this.

He writes about how bogus the SAT scores are.

There's training for those things.
