with some women in the western part of the United States gaining voting rights as early as 1869.

In 1890, just 19 years after the first execution by electric chair, Martha M. Place was convicted of murdering her 17-year-old stepdaughter and sentenced to death, becoming the first woman to meet her end at the hands of old Sparky.
