There's a famous speech.

I think Tim Ferris might be the first person that I heard talk about this speech.

The speech is called This is Water. It's by a guy named David Foster Wallace.

And it's a graduation speech. You know, people are graduating from college.

I'm not going to go into David Foster Wallace's whole life. He was a professor. He was a writer.

He was an author of books and he battled with depression his whole life and he eventually killed himself, which is awful.

But I want to talk about a speech a little bit because it opens up an idea that I've been

been engaged with for a while now. So his speech starts off like this. Greetings, parents and

There are these two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the

other way who nods at them and says morning boys, how's the water?

And the two young fish swim on for a bit and then eventually one of them looks over at the other

and goes what the hell is water?

And so the point of this story is that you know, we're in water and we're so used to the water.

We're so encompassing the water that we don't even know that we're not. We don't notice it.

Now what does this have to do with anything? Well,

how does this apply? I mean, there's clearly there's a topic that we can get into about appreciating life

and that's the water that you're in and you can just be not appreciative of it.
