Summary

We all know Luke loves his Wes Anderson films…but does he love them enough to pass listener Kelly's trivia quiz? Plus, Andrew reminisces about the time he was "hollered at" for bringing a drink down to a pool in Hawaii.

Come on at your T B T L Winter Games Thursday episode. Thank you so much for tuning in. Hope you're having a

0:25.9

restful pre holiday session but it's not restful as this show is being released to the internet.

0:35.9

A couple of days before Christmas it's a notoriously hectic time. I hope you're doing okay in this notoriously hectic time.

0:41.9

I'm doing great because I'm on tape. Hi my name is Luke Burbank by the way right over there. My friend Andrew Walsh. Hello sir.

0:47.9

Hello as we as we publish this show on Thursday I should be probably in the air right now. I'm thinking heading off on my holiday holiday.

0:59.9

So yeah what is your big plan for for and this is you're going to a place that you have been to before I believe right.

1:07.9

An area I've been to before we're not going like back to the same exact like you're not going back to the Golden Girls condo. No although I do like the idea of that we found another place but it's kind of in that in that area of Maui.

1:20.9

Does it have a pool that you can sit in and read your pulpy book. I believe so I you know we booked this a long time ago and I'm kind of forgetting the details.

1:30.9

It's not like a resortie kind of place so it's not like though you know those kinds of places like when we went to I think Mexico or I can't remember other vacations where you you know you float up to a bar and it's a big public pool area.

1:44.9

I believe we're staying in some sort of a some sort of a condo situation you know I'm sure Airbnb.

1:49.9

And so it's a condo situation where yes there's access to a pool but it's more of kind of like a you know like a private pool for the people who are in the condo.

1:57.9

So that's good that that that'll that'll suit me better yeah probably honestly because it's like you really I don't know what my situation is going to be when I'm in Hawaii because I we are staying at a you know just a kind of a typical kind of big resort hotel thing and like they really get you on the on the dining near the pool situation if you have a couple of drinks you look down you're like holy guacamole we're out 100%.

2:26.9

So but I'm also kind of 45 years old I have nine jobs I I should be able to not have to sneak food and beverages into places anymore you think you get to an age maybe or a phase of life where you're not doing that but it's that that has very hard for me when I feel like the stuff whether it's a movie theater or something like this where it's just I mean it almost it kind of it really is a lot of things.

2:55.9

It ruins the fun for me a little bit of the enjoyment if I'm constantly my mind thinking this is this is highway robbery for these nachos this is where you and I are weirdly opposites on this issue even though you think our personalities would point us in the different direction because like it is not about the sneakiness of it for me but like if I'm going into a movie theater I know that everything is over price there like let's say the popcorn in the soda but it's part of the experience for me and same with if I'm like at a pool side bar you know if I'm in a pool that has a pool side bar or whatever.

3:24.9

That's part of the experience even knowing that it's expensive I just put it out of my head and deal with it later right when it's time to when it's time to pay the bill or what have you now in this scenario I'm talking about for me this weekend like if it's if we're allowed to take a plastic cup down to the private pool I will do that it's not like I'm going to be spending tons of time missing a pool side bar but if there is a pool side bar I have zero desire to sort of buck the trend you know I mean and take my own little igloo cooler down there or I'm going to be in a pool of the pool of the pool.

3:53.9

I want to be enjoying the full experience if that makes sense same with like the ball games too you know like buying a hot dog inside instead of like bringing you know bringing half a bag of peanuts in the ziplock bag from home.

4:09.9

It is very strange because I am very indulgent in a lot of ways in terms of my own kind of personal comfort and convenience and a lot of my life is just sort of acting out against what was a very kind of underfunded childhood in terms of you know we just would never we weren't the kind of family that would.

4:29.9

I go to a movie in the movie theater but be if we did get get snacks I was actually remembering I was out without for this family dinner a while ago with Becca's family because it was a mom's birthday and her.

4:42.9

So the waiter came by and asked her nephew if he wanted something to drink soda or juice or something or whatever and he this kid is unbelievably poised and mature for his age he said well it's going to be something really sugary I think I'm going to wait for dessert for.

4:58.9

Like have you ever heard you ever heard like a 12 year old do that was amazing but what my thought was was like are you kidding me you're just going to ask the kid what they want and they're just going to order like you need to run this through the parent because when I was growing up we would never we never ate anywhere that had waiters but had we they would have been unthinkable that we were just getting to kind of make our own decisions about what we were going to get.

5:27.9

Be it food drink or the like it would all be my mom saying this is what you can and cannot do or whatever so all that is a some of that.

5:35.9

Lodge somewhere in the back of my brain and there are just weird things that I think are I think that a bag of potato chips from the mini bar in a hotel is a thousand dollars.
