Is religion just a coping mechanism?

will do a little defending today against the accusation.

The religion is all about a psychological need we have to be comforted,

most especially to be comforted in the face of the fact that we know that we're going to die.

Is that all that religion is?

And I have to be honest with you, I am one of those people who needs a lot of comforting

and I do find religion comforting.

And so I need to know, how do I address this concern raised by, most famously, by Sigmund Freud,

the idea that religion is just wish fulfillment.

It's a thing that's there to get us through the day,

but it's not related to any reality.
