So welcome to the podcast. My name is Douglas Wilson. This is episode 357. 3757. So let's talk about Abigail, shall we?

Abigail was one of King David's wives. And prior to that, she was the wife of one Nabal, a descendant of Caleb, and the Bible describes him in 1st Samuel as a

churlish and evil man. He was obstinate and hard-hearted and just a piece of work. And I won't go

into all the story, but basically, David is on the run with his band of outcasts, and they wind up serving as an impromptu security force for Nabal's flocks.

The Nabol was a very, very wealthy guy.

He had thousands of sheep, and he had around a thousand goats.

And David served as an impromptu security force.

And then when the time of shearing came, David sent an embassy of men to request a gift from Nabal,

since in exchange for the service they'd provided. And Nabol answers them very roughly,

very rudely, and sends them packing, because nobody can talk to him. And then after they go,

they tell David this, and David loses his temper and is about to go down and slaughter every

male from Nabol on down.

Everybody in that household was going to die if they were male.

And Abigail, Nabal's wife, hears about this.

And she throws together an offering, a gift for David David and goes out and meets him.
