Summary
In this very special episode, I’m reunited with my ZOEgirl bandmates, Kristin Schweain and Chrissy Katina, to celebrate 25 years since our very first self-titled album released back in 2000. If you remember us as the “Christian Spice Girls” for tween girls, this one is for you! And even if you’ve never heard our music, I think you’ll be encouraged by three former CCM artists who are still walking with Jesus in an age of deconstruction.
We share big news: ZOEgirl has written and recorded a brand-new song that will release in January, in honor of our 25-year anniversary. We talk about what it was like to re-enter the studio together after all these years, and we give life updates on what’s happened since we came off the road around 2008—family, ministry, photography, worship leading, and more.
We also get honest about the darker side of the Christian music industry—the body-image pressures, the pull toward “mainstream-friendly” lyrics, and what it was like to watch so many fellow artists deconstruct or walk away from the faith. Kristin shares the powerful pro-life story of her son Callum’s high-risk pregnancy and the pressure she faced to abort. Chrissy talks about years-long health struggles, losing her voice, and what God taught her in a long season of “just listening.”
Finally, all three of us answer a simple but profound question: “Why do you still believe?” We talk about sin, grace, the reliability of the gospel, and why Christianity isn’t just comforting...it’s true. If you grew up on ZOEgirl, or if you’re trying to stand firm in your faith in a culture that’s increasingly hostile to biblical Christianity, this episode is for you.

| 0:00.0 | Hey, everybody, welcome to the Elisa Childers podcast. I'm Alisa Childers, and I have a very, very special episode for you today. So most of you know me as somebody who speaks in the theology and apologetics world. |
| 0:21.6 | I do cultural commentary. |
| 0:23.6 | And for those of you who have followed my story, I was in a band back in the late 90s, early |
| 0:29.8 | 2000s called Zoe Girl. |
| 0:31.9 | And so for some of you who may not be familiar with what Zoe Girl was like, we were |
| 0:35.7 | kind of like the Christian Spice Girls around |
| 0:38.0 | 1999. So we danced, we sang. Our music was aimed at young tween girls, so kind of those pre-teen |
| 0:44.9 | girls. And it's been 25 years since our first album came out. Now, I am very excited because |
| 0:52.9 | today's episode is with my bandmates, Kristen Swinford, |
| 0:56.9 | Schwain now, and Chrissy Conway Katina now. So we have all gotten married. We all have kids now, |
| 1:03.1 | and we got to get together recently because we have a very special announcement, and that is |
| 1:08.1 | that we have written a song that we're going to release in January |
| 1:11.7 | that is celebrating our 25 years since our first album, our self-titled Zoe Girl album, came out. |
| 1:19.2 | And so I invited the girls into the studio to talk a bit about our time together in contemporary |
| 1:24.7 | Christian music. I think this is especially an apt conversation |
| 1:28.6 | considering that there is so much deconstruction out of the contemporary Christian music industry. |
| 1:33.0 | So many of the bands we toured with, some of the artists that we knew and love have deconstructed |
| 1:38.2 | and some have walked away from the faith. And it's just very sad to see. But I love that |
| 1:43.5 | both Kristen and Chrissy and myself are still following |
| 1:46.6 | Jesus, and we're going to talk about that, especially in this age of deconstruction. |
| 1:50.5 | We're going to give updates about what's been going on in our lives ever since we came |
| 1:55.1 | off the road around 2008. |
