Summary

What if being single isn't something to fix or change, but actually a valid life choice worth celebrating? Maybe you're feeling pressure from family and friends to start dating. Or perhaps you're wondering if it's even possible to truly thrive on your own. Here's what I know: the narrative that we need to be coupled to be happy is just that: a narrative. And it's one we can rewrite.

This week, I’ve invited Lucy Meggeson, author of Thrive Solo and host of the Thrive Solo podcast, to join me for this week's episode. Lucy has been single for over 8 years and she's living proof that solo life can be just as joyful, meaningful, and fulfilling as being partnered.

Join us on this episode to hear Lucy’s own revolutionary approach to single life, and how being single can be just as meaningful and joyful as partnered life, with its own unique freedoms and opportunities.

Hey there, welcome to another episode of the podcast. I've got a good interview for you today. I decided I wanted to do this one for new years because I'm hoping that for those of you who are really contemplating, what if I want to do life solo? Do I have to be in a relationship? What if I want to challenge that narrative? But maybe I don't feel supported in doing that.

0:55.4

I want to offer that this year can be different for you. And to that end, I have brought you Lucy Megison.

I actually did an interview on Lucy's podcast, and that's how I met her, loved her so much that I wanted to invite her to come and speak with me here on the widowed mom podcast.

So Lucy Meggison is the host and producer of Thrive Solo, which is a podcast that celebrates

1:16.4

all things single and personal growth and development. And she runs a global online membership,

1:22.0

also called Thrive Solo, for women who want to make the most of their lives, regardless of their

relationship status.

1:28.5

And I think that can be us as widows.

And it's a counter-narrative to the stigma that surrounds single life in a world that's built for couples, which we all can relate to, right?

1:45.2

So the book reveals the freedoms and opportunities of solo life, and Lucy draws on her own

experiences, the latest research, as well as the stories of other happily single women who also

don't have kids. Now, I want you to disregard the kidless part of Lucy's work. Most of you

1:59.6

are listening and you do have kids. It's not relevant,

2:02.3

right? But the conclusion that Lucy's work draws is relevant, which is that being single is just as

2:08.7

joyful and meaningful and fulfilling as being in a partnership. And above all, Lucy believes that the

most important relationship is the one we have with ourselves, and how many
