why does John the Baptist get so much attention in Advent?

Well, we'll hear it today in the prophecy about him

that he is the voice crying in the wilderness

to prepare the way of the Lord.

And since John the Baptist prepares and we're thinking

about the coming of Christ and at least one of the coming, probably the least

important one frankly, but maybe the most important for us since it's our remembrance of it is the coming of Christ so to speak at
