One of the things I like to do here on Java with Julie is to model how to have conversations

about difficult issues and how to have them in a way that points people to Jesus.

Well, these days, some of our most difficult conversations to navigate might actually be our online conversations.

Social media has become a main way for us to

express our views about politics, racial injustice, sexual ethics, and loving people for who they are.

Unfortunately, our engagement on social media can easily turn toxic. Is there someone in your

social media feed that just makes your blood pressure rise

every time you see them post? Or maybe you're the passionate one. You love using social media

to advocate for the causes that are meaningful to you. We often forget that what we say is

just as powerful in a tweet as it would be if we were standing in front of someone.

Online, just like in real life, there's a time to speak and a time to hold our tongues.

But how do we know which one we should do?

Well, I've asked that question before, and that's why I'm looking forward to sharing this

conversation with Dan Darling, who wrote the book called Away with Words.

Dan is an author, speaker, and pastor, and he wrote this book to help us apply biblical

wisdom to our engagement online.

Now, Dan isn't saying that we just give up social media altogether, but he's not ignoring

the fact that Christians don't always engage in social media well.
