Summary

In this episode, I’m breaking down the hidden flex of being predictable. Back in my hoop days, I spent way more time practicing than playing, and while my drills were full of fancy moves, my game play was simple and repeatable and that’s what worked. Some people said I was “predictable,” like that was a bad thing, but they were missing the point. Predictability, when it’s backed by skill and consistency, is a strength, not a weakness. Today, I’m telling you why doing the same thing well—over and over—can actually make you unstoppable. Show Notes:  [02:22]#1 Predictability and consistency have a calming effect on both the users and the recipients. [08:23]#2 The more predictability you have in your life, the easier it is to think long term and plan for  the bigger picture. [15:07]#3 Predictability frees up your most powerful weapon.  [29:55]Recap Next Steps: 🎓 Work On Your Game University Get structured, get paid → WorkOnYourGameUniversity.com 📧 Dre’s Daily Emails (Free) Clarity. If everything in your life is random, nothing's predictable, then you are probably living a life of chaos and disorder.

Now back in the days when I made basketball workout videos and I had a lot of players watching these videos where I was basically showing people drills, how to practice and get better at basketball.

0:36.8

Every now and then, I would splice in a video of myself playing in an actual game of basketball.

0:43.3

Now, one thing you should know is that back in my playing days, I had what I called the 10 to 1 rule,

0:47.3

which meant I spent 10 hours practicing for every one hour I spent playing the game.

0:51.8

So I had a lot more videos of myself doing drills,

0:55.7

i.e. practicing than I had myself playing the games, i.e. playing. And I put out thousands of

1:01.4

videos. So there was some game footage mixed in with all of that. And sometimes when I would put my

1:06.0

game play videos out, I would get comments from some players saying that the stuff that I was doing in the

1:12.1

game varied from a lot of the things that I was doing in the practice in the drills. For example,

1:18.9

in the drills that I would put out, I would often do lots of advanced moves, these combination moves,

1:23.5

combining different things together, stuff that pretty much looks fancy. But then in the game,

1:28.2

if you looked at the way I was playing in the game, I would do a lot of simple and basic stuff,

1:33.1

often doing the same movements over and over against the score of my points, more basic moves

1:37.6

rather than in the complex and fancy moves. And players sometimes would respond in a tongue-in-cheek

1:43.9

type of way to my game footage and say

1:45.5

that your playing style is they would say well dray the stuff you're doing is predictable or they would

1:50.9

theorize that the stuff i was doing was easy to stop because i was doing the same stuff over and over
