0:44.1	So I work on the LZ dark matter experiment, which is deployed underground in South Dakota.

0:59.0	Sure. So I should probably start by explaining what dark matter itself is. So it's a hypothetical
1:04.0	form of matter that we are very, very sure exists because we have indirect evidence,
1:09.0	observational evidence from astronomy, astrophysics,
1:12.0	and cosmology, primarily through gravity. So we know there's more matter than we can see,
1:17.1	and we know it's not made of the same particles, constituents as ordinary matter. And so one of the
1:23.9	ways to look for dark matter is you actually make you create particle detectors you deploy
1:29.5	them deep underground because the idea is dark matter would pass through the earth unimpeded
1:34.0	like neutrinos and similar particles and interact with your detector so in the lZ detector we use a
1:39.8	gigantic bucket basically or it's a thermos, actually.
