Summary

The President of The Fragrance Foundation, Linda Levy, is in the Perfume Room today! A beauty industry veteran and champion of change, Linda makes my list of top 10 fave people ever — and I’m in good company to feel this way; Frederic Malle has described Linda as the Lady…as in Portrait of a Lady. Yes, that one. We discuss all things Fragrance Foundation — who gets to be a member, its mission, what’s changing, the coveted awards, and so much more. Linda doesn’t shy away from her feelings on outdated industry practices and her vision for a more inclusive fragrant future. Also, have you ever wondered what the difference is between ‘niche’ v ‘indie’ or ‘luxury’ v. ‘prestige?’ Today you’ll find out. Plus I share a very exciting announcement!!

Welcome to the perfume room. Today I am coming in hot because I want to talk to you about

0:16.4

powdery sense, my ode to them, my complicated relationship with them, and here is why. I think

0:23.6

powdery sense is like a bit of a misnomer because people hear powder, they have such an association

0:29.1

with baby powder that they assume if there is a powder note, it is going to be that very specific

0:35.4

Johnson and Johnson smell.

0:38.3

But if something smells powdery, it doesn't necessarily have to mean baby powder.

0:44.3

It could be powdery in that like the texture feels powdery, the texture feels chalky.

0:49.3

I think that's sort of why I love Orris so much because it has like a sort of chalky,

0:53.3

powdery, grainy texture in the

0:56.6

smell and in the feel. But today I want to talk to you about the scent that I am currently wearing,

1:01.1

which is Narciso Poudre. And please don't come at me for saying that with an affected accent.

1:06.7

I did take French in school and I cannot in good good conscience, say Narciso Poudre.

1:12.2

It just, I can't.

1:13.9

I don't have a full bottle of this.

1:15.3

I only have a decant.

1:16.5

But the reason that this is an anomaly in my collection is because most of the, air quote,

1:21.6

powdery sense I gravitate towards are more for that textured powdery feel versus the

1:27.4

smell or anything sort of synonymous with any sort

1:30.6

of baby powder or body powder. But putre does smell like some sort of body powder and yet I love it.

1:39.3

There's something about it that feels very reminiscent of like my grandmother's era, but it's elevated and it's this

1:46.3

modern take on something that's a very classic traditional smell. It's this very floral, musky scent.

1:53.7

And the notes that I smell the most in this order would be Jasmine, Tonka, and Musk. And I think the combination of the three, I don't know, it creates something that, like,
