| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. Worry. It is a powerful emotion. |
| 0:11.0 | It can keep us up at all hours of the night. It can cause our body's illness and it can just ruin our day. |
| 0:20.0 | Worry. It is a powerful negative emotion. |
| 0:25.0 | But the good news is, I also believe there are specific things that we can do |
| 0:31.0 | to reduce the worry and with time learn to not let worry ruin our days or even our |
| 0:38.6 | lives. But I truly believe we are meant to have beautiful lives. |
| 0:44.0 | It takes work, it takes courage. |
| 0:47.0 | But if we develop these skills to overcome worry, |
| 0:51.0 | we will find that then our lives will be filled with peace and happiness instead of worry and anxiety. |
| 1:00.0 | So let's start with what causes us to worry? |
| 1:03.0 | Well, our worries come from the future, not from the past. |
| 1:08.0 | We may be worried about something in the past and how it would turn out, |
| 1:11.0 | but it's how it would turn out in the future. That's where worries come from. We have |
| 1:16.7 | things we want to go a certain way and we're concerned. We're anxious. We're |
| 1:21.6 | worried that they may not or we're not sure what's going to happen and we're worried about that uncertainty |
| 1:28.4 | And besides the future the other element that causes to worry is expectations. |
| 1:34.0 | We have desires, we have a strong urging for things to go a certain way, and we're worried |
| 1:40.4 | that they won't. |
| 1:42.3 | And then thirdly, these worries about the future that we want to |
| 1:43.0 | these worries about the future that we want things to go a certain way |
| 1:48.0 | are based upon control. With our expectations we want to control the future, but if we've lived long enough, we know that we can't. |
| 1:58.0 | And so we worry. We want that control, but we realize there are certain things, often many things that are out of our control. |
