Summary

"America's Funnyman" Neil Hamburger is the disturbing comic creation of Gregg Turkington; deeply funny, vile and poignant in equal measure. Ordinarily reluctant to talk about his alter-ego, Gregg gradually uncovers his love for outsider art, and the qualities he considers genius. We learn about the origins of Neil in prank phone calls and fake live shows, the comedy he can't stand and why, and the utterly original concept behind his live albums.

Over 30mins of extra content available exclusively to members of the Insiders Club include Gregg on being booed onto the stage supporting Tenacious D at Reading Festival, and how it meant no more to him than a crowd at Madison Square Garden chanting his name! We also learn the surprising basis to whom he won't attack and why, and find out why he considers interviews pointless... hilarious, awful, heartbreaking kind of a guy. He's known as America's Funny Man and you may have seen him with

1:25.6

three cocktails grasped in his arm against his body, his hair slicked across his head gigging and you may have seen him

1:35.8

performing at festivals all over the world I think I first saw him in Edinburgh

1:38.9

must be 12 years ago or more also he has a show called a movie called Entertainment which is an incredible piece of

work we'll talk about that a little bit on the show as well. It's it's sort of

1:51.1

artistic and painful and beautiful and upsetting much like Greg and indeed

1:57.5

Neil's work took me a long time to convince Greg to come on the show as we'll discuss

2:01.6

in this episode he doesn't really enjoy talking

2:05.3

about his art or and we'll talk about on the insiders club if you get as far as the insiders

club extra content by signing up at comedians comedian.com slash insiders

2:14.4

we'll get to hear Greg talking about why he doesn't think there's really much

2:18.3

worth in being interviewed. So that was a fun thing for your humble interviewer to grapple with.

But he is a really interesting and funny and warm person.
