12 “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
and I find knowledge and discretion.
13 The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.
Pride and arrogance and the way of evil
and perverted speech I hate.

| 0:17.5 | Don't think too far ahead, just think about this day. And we're learning about wisdom. We've |
| 0:21.7 | been looking at the book of Proverbs for some time now. |
| 0:24.4 | And we've camped in chapter 8 for a bit where the writer of Proverbs has |
| 0:29.3 | personified wisdom. He characterizes wisdom as a woman who is calling out with compassion and |
| 0:36.8 | zeal to those who had listened, to take her advice and to understand how valuable her words are. |
| 0:45.2 | And verse number 12 is where we're going to pick up today. |
| 0:48.2 | Says I wisdom dwell with prudence and I find knowledge and discretion. |
| 0:55.0 | Let's stop for a moment and examine what that means. |
| 0:58.0 | I dwell with prudence and I find knowledge in discretion. |
| 1:03.0 | Discretion, prudence, those are words we don't use a whole lot in our day. |
| 1:09.0 | But they're words that describe a quality of assessing situations and making wise decisions in light of what we |
| 1:18.0 | determine by our assessment. Prudence is being careful and shrewd and wise about a course of action or a decision to make. |
| 1:30.0 | Discretion is being careful about the things that are going on around us and making sure we |
| 1:36.5 | understand the situation before we take action. |
| 1:39.9 | And wisdom says those characteristics are inherent in the way it operates. |
| 1:47.4 | The next verse says the fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. |
| 1:58.0 | Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech, I hate. |
| 2:05.6 | Now this concept of the fear of the Lord is often coupled with wisdom. There is a passage in the Proverbs as well that says the fear of the Lord is the beginning |
