excellent. Good evening. December 18th, 2018. General Jim Mattis resigned as a

Secretary of Defense for Donald Trump and he did that. He wrote a letter and in

that letter he said, quote, because you have the right to a Secretary of Defense

whose views are better aligned with yours. I believe it is right for me to

step down from my position. And clearly General Mattis did not agree with

what Donald Trump was doing or how Donald Trump was doing what he was doing.

And so he stepped down and you can read that letter online, the letter of

resignation. And it's he did it in as respectfully as he could. I think after he

did that, things went a little bit worse between the two of them. But the

initial statement was certainly meant to be done in a respectful way to from

the from the Secretary of Defense to the Commander in Chief. But it was certainly

a statement by him stepping down. When that happened, I was definitely disappointed

to see General Mattis leaving that position. And because then it's a

situation where he no longer has any influence over what's happening. And

General Mattis a highly respected Marine and leader in the military. But this

kind of thing has happened before. A harder line was taken by Colonel David

Hackworth when he spoke out against both military and civilian leadership in

his interview toward the end of the Vietnam War interview with a news program
