  • Knowing when scrapes are no longer important
  • Focusing on rattling can lead to increased success
  • Trim out shooting lanes and prioritize shot opportunities during the rut when bucks are moving fast
  • Hunting during the early days of this period offers higher chances of success in harvesting bigger bucks
  • Finding a hot doe
  • Pinch points and funnels are ideal hunting spots during this time
  • Thanksgiving week can provide some excellent opportunites at mature bucks
  • Knowing when scrapes can come back into play in November
  • Successfully hunting the lockdown
  • Using trail cameras to know when he is looking for the next hot doe
  • Don't be afraid to move spots
  • When you should start sitting all day

All right, it is the time we've been waiting for, and we're bringing in the big guns.

0:17.6

We're bringing in the biggest artillery we have in the archive possible to make this your best November ever. What do you think about that? I think it is going to be the best November ever for a whole lot of folks, not just because of this episode, just because it's November. It's 2023. We all advancing it better each and every year. And dude, I'm just like on the edge. I'm on the edge of excitement right now. I'm like, you know me, a little bit stella, a little bit, a non-emotional guy, but I'm on the edge of my seat ready to start doing jumping jacks, man. I'm, let's go. Yeah, I just lose mental clarity. I can't think anything other than deer this time of year. It's just, I, it's, it's like,

0:55.0

sitting at my desk and it's like, I have a really, usually I'm pretty focused and here's my checklist is boom. I can't do it this time of year, man. It's like, it's, it's tough. It's really tough. So I'm thankful. I'm very thankful that we can slate this as part of the job here I can talk about all this because it's already on top of my mind.

0:53.5

It is a perk, man.

0:54.6

It is a perk. Yeah. So what we're going to do here is we're going to share basically when the most amount of bucks are getting killed. I mean, we're looking, I know late October is excellent for someone that has a very refined plan. Maybe they have history. Maybe they have a really good mousetrap built.

1:28.3

But for the most of us out there on the face of the earth, November's when, when you, you know, you cut the hay or it rains on your hay and then you're screwed. So now we're trying to make the weather cooperate for you. And so we're bringing in guys like Don Higgins, Bill Winkie, Steve Hansen, Jared Shephler, Peterson, Johnny Barrett, Steve Schert, just the gambit of no matter where you're at in this country, no matter what your style is, whether you have public or private, whether you're aggressive or more passive, we're bringing in a slew of very topical, great advice. How many giant deer out of those lists of people I just mentioned? How many giant deer have died because of those guys? Oh my gosh. It's probably over 400. It's a lot. It is a lot. Yeah. And then, you know, it's just crazy. So basically what we're saying is we can give you our advice, but these guys are, they're better deer hunters than us. I think they have the track record to prove it. So that's why we're bringing in the experts and we're not trying to put on an expert hat. But we do know a thing. Well, here's the other cool thing. Like each one of those guys you mentioned kind of has a different system, different method to their madness. So like not just regionally are their styles a little bit different, but like the individual person, their attitude, their personality, their methods of their madness is all a little bit different.

2:35.8

So there's a lot of little tidbits to gather from from this episode regardless of your region or your style, man. So it's, it's going to be a banger.

2:32.0

Absolutely.

2:32.6

Yeah.

2:32.9

So, I mean, we can get right into it.

2:34.4

We can get it right into November 1st to the 5th.

2:36.1

This is kind of the first leg of November.

2:38.3

And we have a couple people to draw on.

2:40.7

The first one, Steve Hanson.

2:41.9

And so we had this conversation earlier this summer when I was out there scouting for my now Iowa tag, and he is still aggressively calling in the first part of November. And there's some clips that we've done in the past where basically smash those suckers together. Don't be, don't tickle them. And here's the interesting thing too, because I know there's guys like Rod White, we actually had him on here. He's rattled in a bunch of bucks. So like, once again, different ways to find success. His idea is more just rattle them just to where you can hear them, which is a little bit more situational because he can see them. But there was a study on the Texas ranch down there, and they did a study on rattling,

3:28.0

and they found that smashing them together as loud as you can works substantially better than

3:32.7

more passive calling. So take that for what it's worth, if you're blind calling especially.

3:36.2

Any specific advice for early November that you think or what you have seen to be in a most effective

3:42.8

strategy for shooting mature bucks too. Yeah, for you're right for hunting and and you know harvesting

3:47.7

mature bucks. I mean the biggest one on that early November time is to recognize when scrapes are no

3:52.9

longer important. I think a lot of people hunt scrapes longer into November than they really should. And then that first two, you know, November, second, third, four, something in there, rattling is still highly effective. I would, I would recommend that, you know, I'd say when they stop really hitting the scrapes, you probably still, rattling's still going to be effective for three or four days. You know, it seems like they're still on that before they go into

4:14.4

full chase mode. So break down what a setup would look like for that for the November 2nd, 3rd, or 4th with rattling it. Morning evening, are you set up? Let's break down the morning, though. Let's break down the evening. Okay. So in the morning, what does that look like? Yeah, like in the morning, you know, you're going to be more likely in the timber, either, you know, really close to where, you know, they're betting, you know, obviously downwind of it or in some type of a funnel leading to it. And if you're going to employ rattling as part of that strategy, try to hunt a stand or have a stand that has a significant terrain advantage, you know, something that they can't get downwind of you. Like that pond. The pond. Like that pond. Yep. Exactly. You know, having a setup like that's going like that pond yep exactly you know having a setup
