Judah's behavior, particularly in consorting with a woman he takes to be a prostitute,

is the exact foil to Joseph's refusal to engage

in sexual immorality with his master's wife in the next chapter, though she throws herself at him.

Joseph will remain the better picture of the coming Christ, who will never stoop to using other people simply to satisfy some primal itch,

I suppose we could say, but the Christ will come from such men, and indeed for them and for us all.
