Welcome back to the show. Today I'm chatting with musician, television host, commentator, and producer, Sal Masichela.

Born in Los Angeles on August 28, 1971 to a Haitian mother, Leslie Marie LaPierre,

and South African father and iconic jazz musician Hugh Massacela.

Sal spent his early years in New York before

moving to Carlsbad at the age of 16, where he was befriended by Momentum Generation

surfers, Taylor Knox, Rob Machado, and their cohorts who helped usher Sal into the world of

surfing and then skateboarding and snowboarding. He began his professional

career as an intern at Trans World Publications in 1992, which he evolved into commentary roles

at extreme sporting events, which he then parlayed into an on-air sideline reporting gig for ESPN,

covering the 2003-2004 NBA season.

He then took a job co-hosting The Daily 10, counting down the top 10 moments in pop

culture and entertainment for the E-network.

He's been a mainstay host for X Games and NBC Sports Network through a contract with

Red Bull Media House.

He's broadcasted from the Olympics in 2014, and he's a host and executive producer for

Vice World of Sports, a lifelong musician and songwriter.

He's been recording under the moniker Alecazam for the past decade, and his music has been

used in shows from HBO's

entourage to Showtime's House of Lies. He is a Renaissance man, living a wildly unique

experience with lots of inputs from tons of disparate cultures and places, responding

outwardly through a range of talents, and that was really kind of my aim through this discussion was to understand how to slow down

long enough to process all of this stuff that we input and receive nowadays.
