set up as a defensive militia that would protect the Florentine state. But when

fighting with Siena fizzled out, the League changed its focus to enhancing viticulture in the region.

Later in 1716, toward the end of Kossimo Medici III 3rd's volatile and fairly dramatic reign as Grand Duke of Tuscany,

he declared a Quiante wine region from Radha to Greve. So between the areas laid out by the League of Kianti and Kossimo Medici, the third, we find the roots of the Kianti
