for the word of God, men naturally hunger for earthly things, but I want to help you develop

a stronger appetite for knowing God. And so we've been doing that this week by examining

biblical stories that reveal why scripture is foundational to a man's life. So we're wrapping

up the week in the book of Hebrew, so I'll read from chapter 5 starting in verse 11. About this,

we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though

by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of

God. You need milk, not solid food. For everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness

since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment

trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

So guys, let's actually break this down. So beginning at the beginning of verse 12, for though by this time

you ought to be teachers, okay, so guys, this is a direct indictment from Paul, who's the likely

author of Hebrews, but Paul is surveying his surroundings 2,000 years ago, right?

And what does he see? He sees a bunch of men that should be way farther along in their

sanctification processes, right? They should be out a place where they can effectively pour into

others. And yet, they're just stagnant, just sitting there existing, taking up space. And then if we continue on

in verse 12, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God.

You need milk, not solid food. So what is Paul saying here? He's essentially saying, you should be

teaching and mentoring people right now, by now, but you're still

stupid little baby. Right? You're like an overgrown baby with facial hair looking around for a teat to

suckle from, right? Now, verse 13. For everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness
