Today,

Today we return to Matthew Chapter 1 and learn a little bit more about Joseph.

We learn why Joseph was chosen to be the Earthly Father of Jesus. It's not because he was well known, it's not because

he was well spoken or well educated, but he was more concerned with obedience to God than what people thought of him.

May we all aim to be more like Joseph.

We begin with the reading of Matthew Chapter 1

versus 18 through 25 where Matthew the tax collector writes,

this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about.

His mother Mary was engaged to marry Joseph, but before they were married,

she learned she was pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Because Mary's husband Joseph was a good man, he did not want to disgrace her in public, so he planned to divorce her secretly.

While Joseph thought about these things, an angel of the Lord came to him in a dream.

And the angel said, Joseph, descendant of David,

don't be afraid to take Mary as your wife,

because the baby in her is from the Holy Spirit and she will give birth to his son and you

will name him Jesus because he will save his people from their sins. All this happened to bring about what the Lord had said through the Prophet.
