Video games have been the hotbed for technological innovation for decades,

and artificial intelligence has been a literal game changer in the development process for years.

But the recent arrival of generative AI technology has given creators a whole new toolkit

to build the next wave of digital experiences.

It's a future that 29-year-old Peggy Wang and her ego co-founder Vishnu Hari, who is 33,

discussed at length when the two used to carpool to their jobs working in machine learning and

AI at Facebook, now meta, before deciding to start their own gaming company in early 2023.

Writing a wave of investor enthusiasm for Gen AI products, Ego exited the Y Combinator Incubator

in April, and to date has raised $7.5 million in seed funding.

It has used the funding to build out a sandbox-style simulation game whose engine promises to enable players to create their own custom simulation experiences,

think the Sims or Minecraft, without any coding,

using simple text prompts a la chat GPT instead.

Even more mind-bending?

Wang claims that the computer characters inhabiting these worlds

will be able to use AI to rewrite their programming in real time,

creating the potential for unlimited unique experiences.

The company plans to debut an Alpha version next spring.
