Summary

The fourth season of Clone Wars is here, and unfortunately, it kicks off with a bubbling whimper. On the watery world of Mon Cala, the already fraught relationship between its two key cultures is in crisis when the planet's king dies. Now, his son, a child with no skill in command, leadership, or much of anything, is due to inherit the throne despite the anti-monarchist protestations of many of his subjects. Where do the Jedi fit into this? Well, they're on Mon Cala to protect the monarchy of course.

0:17.0	I've been struggling how to introduce these first three episodes of the fourth season
0:21.7	because just trying to give an outline of their themes and all explaining an awful lot
0:26.7	of context, which is interesting for a trio of episodes that are really more on the
0:32.0	bombastic military sci-fi adventure end of the Clone Wars spectrum.
0:37.8	It's about ethnic resentment breaking out in the Civil War, it's about treachery within
0:41.8	the royal court of a weak monarch, it's about the Republic member militaries and what
0:46.5	it actually takes to get them to come out and fight the separatists and what it takes
0:50.7	for the Jedi to even ask.
0:53.6	And it's about our primeval dread of Sharks, so powerful, so remorseless, the shark.
1:00.6	Anyway, I think we'll get more out of analysis in summary, so let me just set the broad
1:07.0	stage for these three episodes.
1:09.7	When the arc opens, the two races that share the water world of Mancala, the Quarren and
1:14.3	the Mancala Mari are in the midst of a succession crisis.
1:17.7	Padme is there to try and settle the issue along with Anakin and a small band of Jedi and
1:22.3	clones, but the Quarren have called in a full invasion from the separatists.
1:27.6	The Republic Force ends up captured or hiding along with the young Mancala Mari Prince,
1:32.6	and the Jedi Council cast about for allies and land on the Gungans, who absolutely wreck
1:37.2	house.
1:38.2	But ultimately, what turns the tide is the fact that the Quarren realize the separatists
1:42.5	are here to subjugate everyone on the planet.
