Between now and the first episode of our new series, I'm sharing 30 of the best clips

from the huge Beyond the Grid interview archive. And for Day 2, we have a two-time world

champion. He turns 42 this year, so he's the oldest driver on the current F1 grid, but

he hasn't lost any of his ruthless determination. It's Spain's Fernando Alonzo, whose amazing

F1 story will continue this season. Already in the book, two world titles with Renault

against great slight Michael Schumacher and Kimmy Reikonen, bitter teammate rivalry, with

Lewis Hamilton at McLaren in 2007, last-gasp championship heartbreak at Ferrari in 2012.

And if you're looking to learn about Formula 1 by watching a previous season, then any

of those should be high up your list. When Fernando came on Beyond the Grid in 2021, we

talked about the two championships he won, those he lost, and the one he still wants to win.

Here comes Alonzo, the new world champion, fantastic round of applause for the championship.

Fernando, when you look at your record, two world championships, 32 wins, hopefully

and counting. Does your talent deserve more than that? No, I don't think so. I think you

get what you deserve. There are couple of examples that maybe you could say that something

is unfair in the way that maybe some people win championships or win races that arguably

are better people on the grid, but you will never know that because we are all in different

cars. And vice versa, there are many talented drivers that as I said before, they didn't

even get to Formula 1. And this is unfair because I race with many, many drivers in younger

categories that they've been outstanding and they won many championships in GoCards, in Formula

3, in other categories and they never had the chance to drive a Formula 1 car. Same here

now on the grid, we have 20 amazing drivers that maybe 90% of them will never win a race
