Summary

Are you ready for Christmas? Don't worry, me neither. This week I share three simple things I think everyone should take time to do this Christmas season. 1) Hold Baby Jesus Spend some time "holding" Baby Jesus in your heart, reflecting on the meaning behind him    coming to us as a small, vulnerable baby. 2) Skip something. It's OK to say “no” to something, even if it is something you always do. Give yourself permission to give up traditions and obligations that are not serving you and your family this year. 3) Go on a date. Spend some quiet, uninterrupted, one-on-one time with someone who is important to you. I will not be recording the podcast for the next two weeks, as I take time to spend the holidays with my family. I will be back with new episodes in 2018. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! SUPPORT Girlfriends is on Patreon! Thank you to our Patreon supporters! In today's show, I'm sharing three simple things every one of us should do this Christmas, and I hope you'll share your thoughts, too.

Come on, let's get started.

0:37.3

Hey, girlfriends, good morning. Welcome to the third week of Advent, which really is like the

0:43.0

fourth week of Advent because there is no fourth week of Advent. Did you know that? It's a con.

0:48.4

They're going to light the candles, but Christmas is the next day. So I hope you're doing well. I hope you're caught up on everything

0:57.0

you want to be caught up on. I most certainly am not. But I keep reassuring myself that Christmas is

1:02.2

coming, whether I'm ready for it or not, whether all the things get done or not, and it's going to be

1:07.0

okay. I have that kind of perspective now, but early on in my marriage and in my motherhood,

1:12.9

in our family life, I used to put a lot more pressure on myself. And I sometimes drove my family

1:18.8

crazy. I've shared before about how we used to wait to the last minute to put up the tree.

1:22.9

And I was a wreck from the stress of trying to do everything in the last minute. Well, even worse than that,

1:28.6

sometimes there were things that I should have let go of that I didn't let go of. And I put that

1:33.8

pressure on myself to the detriment of everybody's experience. So I'm being better about that this

1:39.3

year. I did let go of some things. We're going to talk about that. That's one of the things that

1:43.8

I'm sharing in this podcast. But, you know, I was especially on overwhelm this Advent season. I shared last week about how some changes were going on with my work in the end. Good changes, but stressful changes. Well, I can share a little bit more now because there's some news that's come out in the past week and I wasn't planning

2:02.0

to share it until the new year, but all of a sudden it's on Twitter. So I'm going to share.
