Daily Boost Podcast Show Notes 3-Step Framework That Forces Instant Focus August 22, 2025 | Episode 5165 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description Scott breaks down why everyone's obsessed with finding their "why" when they should be focused on getting crystal clear about their "what" first. He dives into Benjamin Hardy's brilliant scaling framework that forces you to eliminate distractions and zero in on what actually matters. This isn't about setting bigger goals—it's about getting so focused that everything else falls away. Scott shares the three elements that'll get you from confused to laser-focused, plus why most people get stuck trying to hang onto comfortable stuff that's holding them back. Featured Story Scott discovered Benjamin Hardy's book "The Science of Scaling" early and immediately saw how the principles apply to everything—not just business growth. He walks through a client example where a simple question about timeline compression ("Could you do it in one year instead of three?") completely shifted the person's thinking. The real magic happens when you realize that only certain actions will get you to big goals, and you have to be willing to give up the comfortable stuff that's keeping you stuck. Important Points Clarity about your "what" is more powerful than endlessly searching for your "why." The bigger and scarier your goal (while still doable), the more excited and focused you'll become. Raising your floor means eliminating everything below your standards, even things you've done forever. Memorable Quotes "If you can't clearly define what you want, what you want to do, where you want to go, all that stuff, you can't do it." "If you want average mundane, you can do just about anything and get it. But if you want something bigger, you got to get focused." "As soon as you start getting something better, you don't care about the old stuff." Scott's Three-Step Approach Set your frame ridiculously high—pick something that scares you a little but feels doable. Compress your timeline dramatically because urgency creates momentum and forces solutions. Raise your floor by eliminating anything that won't directly get you to your big goal. Okay, today. Okay, today's Friday, so evidently I've got to do the thing. So here comes the thing, right? Happy, happy, happy, happy, happy, happy, happy, happy, happy, happy. Happy Friday, that was seven. Okay, we do seven because every day should be like a Friday. A super happy fun, fabulous Friday. Yay, let's get out of here, have some fun. If you're retired, you can have Saturday because every day is Saturday. If you're not retired, you have no idea what that feels like.

I get it. So today, we're talking about clarity. I know, it's clarity. How we can do it. I can give you a tool. I can't promise clarity today, but I can give you a tool that may get you there. if you don't have clarity about what you want to do, how you want to live, how much money do you want to make, all that kind of stuff. You're just, you're wasting time. Burn a daylight because clarity is the only thing that will get you there. You know it. I know it. That guy knows it. It's just the truth. It's a daily boost. How you do it? My name is Scott. Thanks. Stop by some very direct talk, some motivating inspirational stuff. and but you know some words, some wisdom, some wisecracks, me getting in your face

and maybe you get mad of me.

1:32.1

I don't know.

1:32.5

I hope you don't.

1:33.1

But I just can't help myself.

1:34.5

It's one of my super talents.

1:36.5

I tend to find a different way of thinking about things.

1:39.0

And I tend to be very direct with it.

1:40.9

And if it's too direct, they make it funny.

And some people can't take that. But if you can, I'm glad you're here today. Let's talk about clarity, huh? This is one of those things. If you go back to stoism and stoic philosophy, you will find that it's very, very, very early in what they teach you. It just makes sense. If you can't clearly define what you want, what you want to do, where you want to go, all that stuff, you can't do it. And most people are not clearly defined and what they want. I think generally we're on autopot it most of the days. And that's okay. It works. We've kind of figured out of how life works. We figured out what we generally do. We generally are clear about what we do every day. but as a guy who does this professionally who talks to a lot of people

who want to go from here generally do. We generally are clear about what we do every day. But as a guy who does this professionally,

2:18.9

who talks to a lot of people who want to go from here to there, what I say, okay, where's there?

2:26.4

They don't know. So clarity is really the key. And some people say, no, Scott, it's the why. Everybody

2:31.0

says it's the why. I need to know my why. Simon Sinek. I love Simon.

2:36.2

Sort of, maybe.

2:30.9

Yeah, I do. Okay, he's a cool guy. But I get tired of the darn why thing. You know why? Because it makes no sense if you don't know what. And you have to be clear to know your what. So if you're working on, I want to do this. I say, well, what do you want to do?

2:31.4

I don't know.

2:32.4

I need a why.

2:32.9
