The law enforcement response at Rob Elementary School on May 24th, 2022,

and in the hours and days after was a failure that should not have happened.

That's U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland in the wake of the Justice

Department's report on the 2022 Yvaldi Texas School Massacre. An 18-year-old gunman killed 19 children and two teachers.

It took 77 minutes from when he walked into the school until he was stopped.

The DOJ cites failures in leadership among specific law enforcement officers who rushed to the school.

Garland says officials' biggest failure was treating the shooter as a barricaded gunman, rather than an active shooter.

It meant that officials spent time trying to negotiate with the subject

instead of entering the room and confronting him.

Garland also cites failures in the aftermath of the shooting,

such as family members struggling to receive accurate information
