Former President Donald Trump made government spending a focal point of his economic speech in New York.

In an effort to cut spending, he said if he's re-elected, he'll create a commission focused on

government efficiency that Elon Musk has agreed to lead.

The former president said the Commission will

complete a financial and performance audit of the federal government and

create an action plan to eliminate fraud within six months. Trump said his

plan will end inflation by terminating the climate change proposal known as the

Green New Deal, which failed in the Senate over five years ago and hasn't been reintroduced since,

and that he'll cut energy prices in half or more within 12 months

of taking office. The Republican presidential nominee also pledged to impose

more tariffs on foreign goods. We will bring our automaking industry to the record levels of 37 years ago and we'll be able to do

it very quickly through tariffs and other smart use of certain things that we have that other countries

dealt.

Hunter Biden is attempting to resolve his federal tax evasion case in California with a plea where he maintains his innocence but will accept punishment.

His lawyers made the surprise announcement today moments before a jury selection was scheduled to begin.

CNN's Evan Perez explains.

It's called an Alford clay where Hunter Biden would accept whatever punishment the judge

doze out, but he maintains his innocence. Instead of pleading guilty, he's attempting to maintain his innocence.

Hunter Biden had previously agreed to plead guilty to all of these charges in a deal that fell apart last year in

federal court there in Delaware so the Justice Department they're pushing
