Hi, from CNN. This is Madeline Thompson with five things you need to know for Monday,

December 2nd. Intel has announced that CEO Pat Gelsinger has resigned after a difficult

stint at the company. The once dominant chipmaker stock tanked as it missed the AI boom and was surpassed by most

of its rivals.

CNN's Claire Duffy looks back at where Intel was when Gelsinger took over in early 2021.

It was already in a tough position, and crucially it had missed out on the mobile computing

wave, the next big wave of technology.

Gelsinger was brought in to kind of clean up that situation.

And while he was focused on that, which analysts said he did pretty successfully,

they missed out on another major computing wave, the AI wave, where it's been overtaken by competitors like

Nvidia.

And this company is so essential because it really is the heart of this effort by the Biden

administration to revitalize American shipmaking capacity.
