Hi from CNN, this is Madeline Thompson with five things you need to know for

Thursday October 31st. So for weeks we've been counting down to election day

but let's talk about what happens afterward.

When might the race officially be called?

The short answer is, of course, we don't know.

In 2020, CNN didn't project a winner until four days after election day.

And that could easily happen again.

New CNN polls conducted by SSRS find that likely voters in Georgia are currently divided 48% for former

President Donald Trump to 47% for Vice President Kamala Harris. In North

Carolina, Harris stands at 48% to Trump's 47%.

Results are within the margin of error in both states

suggesting no clear leader in either contest.

The good news is that many states have made changes since 2020 to make it easier for election

officials to get a head start on processing mail-in ballots.

Those take longer to count.

Georgia Secretary of State says he expects the majority of

ballots cast in his state will be tabulated by the end of Tuesday night.

It could also end up not being that close of an election at all and we could

know Tuesday night. So stock up on

snacks and patience. Over the next few days it's more important than ever to be

able to tell the difference between real versus fake information online.
