And in a way that shows him to be great

We're in 2 Peter chapter 3. We are just wrapping up and on my page it looks like the last

paragraph of the entire letter and verse 14 Peter begins this way he says

therefore beloved since you are waiting for the he's now

let's pause and remind ourselves what he's talking about a little funny little

phrase I've heard is that anytime you see the word therefore in the scripture

you need to ask what is the therefore therefore meaning look at the context go back a little bit and see what he's referring to.

See, Peter in this case is referring to what he's just mentioned,

that the day of Jesus' return is coming when he will judge everything and he will destroy the old heaven

and earth and bring about a new one and he says therefore beloved since you're

waiting for these meaning the new heaven and the new earth, be diligent to be found by

him without spot or blemish and at peace. Oh my goodness there is a powerful admonition here, a powerful encouragement for us.

We are to be diligent, first of all, diligence.

I mean think about that. That word means taking very seriously

the task before you and applying yourself to it with intention and with effort.

You see, Godliness, living without spot or blemish and at peace as he describes it here,

do not happen by accident.

Those are not things that are just happy coincidences that we

you know blissfully just step into by accident. It's not that way. A life of

holiness and godliness that can be characterized or described as being without
