Now we are looking at 2nd Peter Chapter 2 and Peter has introduced the idea of false teachers and is warning us that false teachers

will rise up among us.

There will always be people who are taking the word of God perhaps from a sense of

wanting to be some big shot in the church and they rise up to be a teacher of some sort and

have influence and they twist what God says to their own gain.

Now some people I think who fall into this category are doing so simply for ego reasons.

They like the notoriety and the position or attention that they receive by perhaps

having a different sort of perspective or bringing something quote quote unquote, unique

into the church that sets them apart.

My friends, we need to be careful about that,

primarily because Jesus himself

is the unique thing about our faith, right? That's why we're called Christians. We

follow the Christ, Jesus Christ. And we don't need anything else unique. We just

need what the word of God says. And we have to carefully discern if what we're being taught is

Actually what the word of God says. See that's where a false teacher comes in

That's how they're so effective, is they're using something that we generally

already give authority to, which is God's word. And they're actually reading the

words off the page to us and then subtly teaching us a different
