Hello, Winevers. My name is Jesse Meekham, this is podcast number 292 for Wineb,

where we teach you four rules to help you stop them paycheck to paycheck check, get out of debt and save more money.

Today's podcast is titled, Saving Kids From College, not saving for your kids college,

saving them from college. I'm working on an interesting project with

our marketing team Tristan in particular and we are we're doing some interviews and

it's going to be a little bit of a podcast project and something that you all are going to love.

I'm confident and in those interviews that I've been doing and just kind of the learning a common thread has appeared and that is student loan debt.

So I'll skip the reason why I'm doing the interviews and just get to this.

The student loan debt is unbelievable.

Absolutely unbelievable.

And I had asked the Wienab team in our general slack channel, I'd said, hey hey I need some ideas for the podcast what

can I talk about and Brady one of our crack developers suggested saving for

college and I said thanks Brady that's one of the things where I'm totally wishy-washy. I don't have much of an opinion.

At the moment I am not saving for my kids college back in 2007, 8, and 9, I did.

Each one of them, as they were born,

I set up a 529 plan.

Utah has a solid one.

And we would contribute to it, the max every year,

which isn't a ton, but it would be meaningful after you know 18 years of saving and then I think

around 2009 probably when things were getting tight for me and Julie as we were working on the third version of our software,

I stopped doing those contributions and we actually had the kids in a school that was expensive.

It was a private school and maybe that was why I stopped.
