| 0:13.0 | As human beings we have a great capacity to be able to focus. |
| 0:18.0 | You probably have experienced this. |
| 0:20.0 | You're at a party and it's very noisy and people are talking all around you, but you're able |
| 0:26.3 | to focus on the conversation in front of you even though there's so much noise going |
| 0:30.8 | on all around you. Or another example, think of a race car driver who's driving |
| 0:36.2 | 150, 200 miles per hour, and if he or she doesn't keep their focus on what they're doing. They can be in an accident in a heartbeat, |
| 0:46.0 | and yet they're able to keep up this focus through the entire race. |
| 0:50.0 | And sometimes our focus can be a little dangerous. |
| 0:52.9 | I was driving to the store the other day, and this man was on his phone, very focused on what |
| 0:58.2 | he was looking at and he was walking. |
| 1:00.7 | And he definitely wasn't paying attention to where he was going and he walked right into the street. |
| 1:06.0 | And the only reason he didn't get hit is because the car saw him and stopped and he just kept walking. |
| 1:12.0 | I don't even think he'd notice that he almost got into an accident. |
| 1:15.4 | Or think of someone who's having a panic attack. I don't know if you know what they are, |
| 1:20.4 | but they're extreme forms of anxiety and they really think they're going to die. |
| 1:25.7 | They're so focused on how horrible they feel and the anxiety going through them that they think |
| 1:31.1 | they're going to die. And all their attention is focused on that. |
| 1:35.0 | Or think of another person, perhaps is at a cancer treatment center |
| 1:40.0 | and they're going through a very challenging time, but they're out for a walk enjoying nature |
| 1:46.1 | and focusing on what's around them and really have a smile in their heart. |
| 1:52.0 | Here's a focus technique that I often use. |
