0:00.0 | Hello, everyone. This is the outlaw, John Roca with Steve Morris. Hello, and this is our live preview that we'd like to do for films every once in a while, and today we are doing a preview for part one of our exploration of 1982's Gandhi, an incredible film starring the great Bengt Kingsley that won eight Oscars, including best picture, best actor for Bengt Kingsley and best director for Richard Attenborough. Steve, what are your thoughts on Gandhi initially? |
0:29.0 | What are my thoughts on Gandhi? Jesus John. He's been quick. It's only a preview. |
0:36.0 | This is my biggest thought. I want to thank you for suggesting that we do this film. I know it's one that you love because this is the privilege of doing the cine files is that you gave me the privilege of steeply studying one of the great humans ever to live on the planet Earth. |
0:55.0 | And so I am truly an awe of this person, and this is a remarkable film. Those are my brief feelings about Gandhi. |
1:05.0 | Absolutely. A remarkable film that still holds up all these years later. Forty years later, Steve, we're on the 40th anniversary of this film coming out and a film that feels just as topical sadly as it did back in 1982, going back in time to the early 1900s, into the 1920s, 30s and 40s. |
1:24.0 | And what feels now, what seems to going on in our world now. So this is a film that definitely checks a lot of our boxes and gets us going intellectually. So we're very much looking forward to talking about part one of Gandhi this week. |
1:38.0 | Also, our short is happening this week is what we've got a short coming out talking about Matt Damon's performance and rounders. I texted Steve and I told him, Steve, I don't think we talked enough about Matt Damon. |
1:49.0 | And he said, well, let's turn on the mics and have some fun talking about his performance there. So that's our short for this weekend. Where could people purchase the movies we talk about here on the cine files, Steve? |
1:59.0 | Well, not only can you buy or stream every single movie you've ever reviewed on cine files.net, but you could do all your Amazon shopping there. Just go to cine files.net, click on the links. And if you start there, we get, I don't know, half a cent off of every time you stream the movie, but those half a sense add up until they get up to real court nickels and quarters. |
2:20.0 | So please, please, please do your shopping through cine files.net. And if you decide to buy, you know, that new OLED TV, that actually would be more than a couple of pennies and we, and it doesn't cost you anything. |
2:32.0 | It's just using that website to start your shopping trip at Amazon. There you go. Do that and come and join us this Friday for part one of Gandhi. |
2:42.0 | We will not strike a blow, but we will receive them and through our pain, we will make them see their injustice and it will hurt as all fighting hurts, but we cannot lose. |
3:01.0 | We cannot. They may torture my body, break my bones, even kill me, then they will have my dead body, not my obedience. |
3:13.0 | Hello and welcome once again to the cine files where each week we enter the world of a great film. We explore its themes, its history, the filmmaking and the influence it has today. |
3:29.0 | And I have to say that when we talk about themes, history and influence and great films, this is also a truly great person that we are exploring. |
3:38.0 | My name is Steve Morris. I'm a filmmaker and directing instructor in Los Angeles, California. Hello everyone. My name is John Rokam, a writer, Bruce from Host here in San Diego, California, voiceover artist and avid fan of and champion of this movie. |
3:53.0 | And I'm finally. Well, I'm happy that we're finally discussing this film after six years and I can't wait to dive in deep with my co host and my friends, Steve Morris. |
4:05.0 | But before we get into the film, we want to talk about one thing, which is that our supporters on Patreon are what make it possible for us to continue to do the cine files and we wanted to say right up front that we would love you to join that community. |
4:20.0 | You're absolutely right, Steve. Our patrons are the life and blood of our show. We respect them and thank them greatly. And we want you all to join us, Steve said to join that community and be a part of it, you know, whatever. |
4:31.0 | There's so many tears that you can support us at to get great benefits from. We do those cine files shorts. We answer the questions. We do those celebratory Q&As to give and give our patrons like first access to deliver their questions. |
4:45.0 | And we love to answer their questions and really respect that and get them to send in their topics, which we love to talk about on the cine files shorts. And we'd be real open to listening to other benefits that you all would like to see from us. |
4:58.0 | We're always thinking we're always coming up with stuff for sure to give more benefits to our patrons. |
