Summary
Welcome back to Therapy Chat! This week host Laura Reagan, LCSW-C celebrates the show's 6th birthday - August 15, 2015 is Therapy Chat's date of birth, plus 4,101,000 downloads and 291 episodes! Laura thanks the newest members of the Trauma Therapist Network family, Debbie Duquette, LICSW, in Madison, AL; Gwendolyn Blake, LPC in Clinton, NJ; Catherine Fries, LCSW in Philadelphia, PA - all three of whom offer virtual therapy; and Robyn Brickel, LMFT, who is based in Virginia but also licensed in Washington DC and Connecticut, offering virtual therapy in all states where she is licensed. Laura mentions Robyn is a past guest on Therapy Chat (episode 154) and will be on again in the near future to speak about top down and bottom up therapy methods for trauma.
Laura thanks the listeners over the years and all the sponsors whose support has allowed Therapy Chat to keep going consistently - weekly - for 6 years!! It is not easy to make time to record the show on top of running a group practice and having a personal life, sponsors make it possible to devote the time to this work so THANK YOU! And let's not forget the many fabulous guests who have volunteered their time to share their wisdom on Therapy Chat. Too many to mention, and we are grateful for each one of them. And many more wonderful guests are coming up over the remainder of 2021!
Also, in today's episode, Laura interviews Curt Widhalm, who is a group practice owner, podcaster and EMDR Consultant In Training based in Los Angeles, CA. Following up on last week's conversation with Kristen D. Boice about the similarities and differences between EMDR and Brainspotting, Curt explains more about EMDR and how he uses it with adolescents. He explains how he got into using EMDR after experiencing it himself following an accident, and some of the ins and outs of working with teens using this method.
Curt Widhalm is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Los Angeles, CA. He is certified in EMDR and a consultant-in-training. His group practice specializes in working with teens and their families, especially those undergoing trauma or self-harm.
Curt is the co-founder of the Therapy Reimagined Conference and co-host with Katie Vernoy of "The Modern Therapist's Survival Guide" podcast. He teaches in the MFT programs at California State University-Northridge and Pepperdine University and is a member of the CAMFT Ethics Committee.
