Summary

The best way to garden is to accept the failures, learn from them, and grow a better garden next year because of them (not in spite of them).

In this episode I discuss 6 garden failures I had in 2016 and how I overcame them in 2017.

You're listening to the Beginners Garden podcast. I'm Jill McShehehehe with Journey Withjil.net,

0:06.0

and my goal is to give beginning gardeners the tools they need to grow a rewarding, productive garden. Hi there. Thank you so much for joining me today on the Beginners Garden podcast. It is the middle of

0:34.2

August when I'm recording this and it's kind of like the beginning of a new year

0:38.8

for me because today was the first day that my kids went back to school and if you've been

0:44.5

listening to this podcast over the summer you know it's been quite a struggle to be able to get

0:49.7

podcast episodes out to you while the kids were home and I tried to do it a little bit over the summer,

0:55.1

but now I'm able to really focus back on these episodes and I'm hoping to get them to you

1:00.1

every other week, at least for the next couple of months. And what I wanted to bring to you today

1:05.0

is something I think about this time of year every year. And that's just kind of a reflection of how the garden season has gone

1:13.8

now granted it is the middle of august and our season is far from over we don't experience our

1:19.6

first fall frost till november so i still have several months of good harvesting and growing

1:25.9

i'm getting ready to start working on my fall

1:28.7

garden in earnest this week and next week. So I still have a lot left to go. But as far as the

1:34.6

summer crops and the biggest bulk of my garden, that's pretty much winding down. And so this

1:41.3

is a good time for me to start reflecting on the season and take a look

1:45.7

at what worked and what didn't work. Many of you guys have experienced the same type of season that I

1:51.5

had and you have had some major challenges this year. Mine started out at the very beginning,

1:58.5

way too much rain. I had a lot of trouble with rabbits, and I just had a lot of different failures, especially

2:04.9

at the beginning of the season.

2:06.9

And that has definitely calmed down as the season progressed.

2:10.6

I ended up having a really good harvest in a lot of different crops.

2:15.0

So it ended up working out pretty well.
