and my goal is to give beginning gardeners the a few weeks off from the podcast, and one reason for that was my family enjoyed a two week long vacation last month.

We went to the western U.S. my first time in most of those states and we had a great time.

I will have to say this morning that if my voice is a little bit different and maybe if I'm speaking a little bit lower than normal,

it's because we are still smack in the middle of summer and my children are home for the summer and I wanted to get

this podcast out and the only time I had to do that without a lot of noise in the background was

first thing in the morning. So the sun has just risen outside, and I'm trying

to keep this a little bit low so that I don't wake my kids up, and I can finish this episode

for you and get it out as soon as possible. Back to my vacation. It was hard to leave my garden garden and I wouldn't recommend going on a two-week

vacation in the middle of the summer harvest, but we managed. Of course, when I returned, I only

had a couple of weeks to catch up on garden work, but seriously, is catching up on garden work

even possible before I realized I needed to think about my fall

garden. Now, I have to confess that my past attempts at a fall garden haven't gone all that smoothly.

Some years I haven't done much of anything because after the full summer harvest and all that entails

endless harvesting, canning, freezing,

weeding, taking over the whole garden,

I'm just done.

Other years, I've tried crops that didn't work so well in the fall.

So I've had my hits and misses,

but there have been fall crops that have been huge successes in my garden.

And while I plan on trying some new ones this year, the ones we're going to talk about today

are my staple fall crops.
