Summary

Rex asks Joy about New Year’s Eve and Mick’s story about taking Joy to a real-ale pub after midnight. Joy tells him she met Rochelle instead, and they talked about her new partner. It’s bittersweet for Rex, who says it’s great that she’s met someone.

Lilian tells Joy that Justin was bordering on triumphant when he came home last night. This is news to Rex, but he really hopes it means Justin has sorted everything for Peggy’s artwork unveiling at Rewilding Ambridge. When David tells Kirsty about the family members who are coming, he picks up that the artwork hasn’t been sorted yet. But when Justin arrives he tells Kirsty he thinks he’s solved their problem, but they need all the muscle power they can muster to make it happen before two-thirty. Rex, Kirsty, David and Justin, plus mini-digger, then work like crazy digging holes to anchor the new, improved artwork. Joy arrives with news that a truck’s waiting down the lane, before Justin co-opts Joy into helping unwrap several packages. Each piece will go into holes on either side of the path, Justin explains. They’ve all been sourced from Julie the artist’s upcoming exhibition. Justin had to expend a lot of persuasive energy as well as hard cash to get her to agree, but so long as Lilian’s happy with Peggy’s Art Installation it’s all been worthwhile.

Later, Lilian gives a speech before the stained-glass installation is unveiled to appreciative gasps and applause. Lilian then tells Justin the artwork is awesome and Peggy would have loved it. She can hardly thank Justin enough.

You're listening to Thursday's episode of The Archers from BBC Radio 4. Listen only on BBC Sounds. Yeah, Justin's assured me it will be marvellous.

1:01.5

Has he?

1:02.5

Well, that's good, Lillian.

1:04.4

Mick said he got a glimpse of it yesterday, and it was quite something.

1:07.5

Oh, it must be.

1:08.8

Justin's been rather furtive recently, so I was starting to have one or two doubts, Joy, you know, to be honest. But he came home late last night and he was bordering on triumphant. Triumphant. Well. Morning, both. It is it still morning. Almost. A minute to go. Now then, Rex, I've made up a box of mugs that Fallon put aside.

1:28.3

Thanks, Joy. I mean, we might not need any extra. Hopefully not. But you never know.

1:32.8

I've been emailing and ringing round everyone I know, so it's bound to be a good turn-out.

1:37.2

Oh, great.

1:38.5

Lillian was just saying that when Justin came home last night, he seemed triumphant.

1:43.9

Pardon? You know, I can't record the last time I've seen him that happy. Justin was triumphant. He was beaming. You haven't caught up with him this morning then? No, no, he's been with Demora clients all morning. Oh, um... Oh, look, this is someone I'm really hoping will come. Excuse me, I'll see you at the unveiling. Yep, he certainly will. He must have got it sorted then. If Justin was beaming, then that has to be a good sign. Yeah, I mean, you'd think, but with Justin, well, nothing's ever quite certain. I know what you mean. Right, thanks for these. Oh, I meant to ask. Mick mentioned his mate's real oil place. Told me it was excellent. I thought next time Toby and I have a weekend free together. Oh, sorry, you'll need to ask him, because I've still not been. You haven't? He says it's nice and friendly, though. Right. Now you get back to Kirsty. You need to tell her the good news. Well, yeah, if I knew what the good news was.

2:41.0

Mum's fine sitting down. It's the getting up, you see. Oh, don't worry, David. There's at least five or six chairs with arms, so I'll reserve one of those for her. Oh, thanks. Oh, by the way, we've hired some mobility scooters.

2:52.5

Really?

2:53.1

Yeah, then at least Jill and Christine can have a good look around while they're here and make the most of it, because I'm afraid... No, what, you still haven't sorted the artwork? No. It's being unveiled today. Yep, and what's worse is all such a life for sending their assistant editor, who's after some kind of a cover shot.

3:11.1

Oh, good luck. unveiled today. Yep. And what's worse is Borsuchelight for sending their assistant editor
