Summary

On Saturday, Megan broke a 15-year-old course record at Quad Dipsea! This episode shares everything about the journey in a “no secrets” style.

The record was set by Caren Spore in 2010, back when Megan was playing field hockey and her biggest runs were wind-sprints. Years later, when Megan was in medical school in the Bay Area, the Quad became a bucket list event. But it never happened—a 28 mile race with 9000 feet of vertical gain and approximately three billion steps was just too much at that stage of her life.

Then came the heart issues and 2 kids. This weekend, she got back on the brutal, stair-filled trails and WENT PRIMAL. We break it all down, featuring listener questions and hot takes on training, strength work, nutrition, heart rate, stairs, and so much more!

Thank you all for being here for the wild ride. Come for the story about how we almost Home Alone’d the bicarb. Stay for the reminder to watch where you sit on Southwest.

We love you all! HUZZAH!

Happy Tuesday.

0:05.7

It's Tuesday.

0:06.9

And I'm ready for some stair dancing on this Tuesday.

0:09.4

Oh, crap.

0:10.3

You did so much stair dancing on Saturday when you set the course record at the quad

0:14.9

dipsy, which is famous for its stairs.

0:16.7

Megan, I am so proud of you, even though your stair dancing on the downhill stairs was not

0:21.5

particularly great.

0:22.5

Might have been some slow dancing going on.

0:24.5

Not usually my vibe, but more like a twerking girl.

0:27.6

This was slow, like some slowest known times down the stairs.

0:31.3

Yeah, so it's a 28 mile race with 9,000 feet of climbing.

0:34.3

A lot of it is on these just brutal, brutal stairs. And so at mile 28, I was waiting for you at the bottom of the last flight. And I could see you hundreds of feet above me, like 400 feet above me. It felt like a never ending set of stairs. And then I got to see you daintily come down one at a time. And I'm like, okay, I don't know how you're about to set this course record,

0:54.8

but that makes it even more impressive. I had to give myself a buffer. I think I was asking you

0:59.1

very nervously. I was like, is there anyone behind me? It was so funny because this is in Mill Valley,

1:04.5

and you're very far away at this point. And you just see me and you scream, anybody back there?

1:10.5

No, you're okay. Like anyone in sight is going to

1:13.5

catch me right now. The stairs, man, I actually looked up online and there's, I think,
