No matter what we have going on, what we have going on, what we have coming up,

0:10.0

there is this sense of feeling like things should be better.

0:18.2

Like somehow what we're experiencing isn't quite enough.

0:30.0

And what's interesting about that is that it's really, it's in our DNA, you know, it's a part of our human evolutionary design.

0:36.0

And that's really useful because, you know,

0:42.0

a hundred thousand years ago or fifty thousand years ago we would adapt to

0:50.0

whatever our experience was and so we would feel like, okay, this is normal. So if we were, you know,

0:58.0

moving to the jungle and found some food, we wouldn't just go, okay, I found food, I'm just going to stay here because

that food will run out and then we would be screwed.

1:18.0

So we evolved to have this sense of pleasurable adaptability and like status adaptability

1:22.0

to where we go, oh I have food but this isn't enough I need to keep searching for more food.

1:28.0

1:39.4

continue to keep desiring and craving ultimately.

1:43.0

And this trait, you know, these deep brain states and evolved behaviors of ours, they don't go away. They can't go away. They're the

1:58.1

foundation of what we are as animals. But what they do is that they evolve and they change and ultimately on a symbolic level

2:06.9

those you know the need system the function of all those things just have the symbols swapped out.

2:15.0

So what that means is that now we aren't obviously walking to the jungle,

2:20.0

least most of us aren't. And so those desire systems to keep seeking show up in terms of our finances, our status, our, you know, our achievements, our

2:35.9

relationships, whatever they are. And ultimately it makes us feel like no

2:41.5

matter where we are that things aren't good enough
