I'll bet you didn't know, at least I didn't know, that President Trump is the third U.S. President to try to acquire

Greenland. This is just one of the interesting facts I learned when trying to investigate or

research a little bit what the mindset of Donald Trump is or was when he talks about acquiring

Greenland. Because I've learned there's usually a method to the madness

when it comes to Donald Trump. And it turns out, and yes, there's quite a bit of support or

reasoning behind the proposed acquisition of Greenland. And I thought I would do a brief but fun

sort of trivia podcast today about surprising facts regarding Greenland and the U.S.

Number one, U.S. aspirations to buy Greenland date back nearly 160 years.

It turns out that President Andrew Johnson sought to purchase Greenland back in 1867.

Johnson's Secretary of State, William Seward, explored buying Greenland alongside Alaska.

That's according to the U.S. State Department's historical records, but as we know, only the Alaska deal went through.

Then, number two, Truman tried to buy Greenland.

In 1946, President Harry Truman proposed buying Greenland for $100 million in gold.
