A little while ago I went back to a shooting course that I've been to several times.

It was specifically this time around

handguns and I've done the course several times right-handed because I well I

right left-handed I do everything else right-handed and I was fairly proficient with with a handgun

with my right hand I was pretty fast on the draw accurate and so on and so forth

so I wanted to take my boy out there along with some family members and we were just going to have kind of a good guy time.

But I wasn't too thrilled about going through all the motions of this four day class doing it right-handed again. I'd already passed the class

distinguished graduate if you must know and yeah I was ready for a new challenge

so I I bought a left-handed holster and cinch that up on my left hip and did the entire course left-handed from day one. This is interesting for a few different

reasons. One, all the techniques that you have for like a safe draw where your

support hands supposed to go to your belly or where you're you know your firing hands supposed to go to your belly or where you're you know your

firing hand supposed to come down hard on the grip of the gun where you're clearing

malfunctions and having to do chamber checks and magazine checks and all that.

I had to relearn it all.

So I knew it in theory, but my hands actually had to go through the motions

over several days and to really master it so while my brain is saying yeah

you know how to clear a type 3 malfunction my hands weren't necessarily doing

it correctly so I went to the entire course left-handed and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. If I were to summarize it, I would say it was because I was able to do something as a beginner again. I was able to kind of start knowing it theoretically, but

still recognizing that I had to go through the practice, break things down into their component

parts, and really build on top of them one at a time.
