Robin and I are going to begin a two-part series on forgiveness

as Christians we are called to forgive those who harm us. But what in the world does that actually mean?

Next week I'll take a stab at that question. Today, Robin and I want to talk about what forgiveness

is not what it's not. In particular, we're going to address the notion of

forgive and forget, forgive and forget. How do you hold together

Christ's call to live in truthfulness and honesty with this whole notion of forgiveness means

forgetting the offense and never talking about it again? That's where we're going today.

It's glad to see your face and good to be back. So Robin was a guest in season one. It was episode

eight and shared some of her story, both about sexual abuse and about really your story of telling

your family about the abuse. And one of the things that came up in that episode was this whole

notion of forgive and forget. And so that's what I want to focus on today. So maybe just to start with

what do we mean when we say forgive and forget? Or how was that explained to you?

Right. Well, you know, I believe that what was modeled for me growing up was a model of no repair.

And so I was also hearing forgive and forget not only by the things that I saw model but also spoken

by parents and other family members. I watched just really awful things happen. And then all of a

sudden the next minute, everything was supposed to be okay. I also believe that I heard that in

church as well, that you know, to be a good Christian woman or teenager or child that I was to

simply forgive that was required and also just to forget it. Like it never happened because that was

what was forgiveness. You had this sense of forgiven forget as what forgiveness actually meant and

how you were to be like as a girl. Am I hearing that right? Absolutely. That I was supposed to go on
