Welcome back to our pace and space series where we're having fun over the

summer sort of revisiting the best of the pace and space era and all the fun things that have changed a

basketball in the last decade or so and today I mean today Cody already

has the glimmer in his eye this This is the Cody Hodak special, the episode we've been waiting years for.

The episode he's been waiting his whole life for. We're going to talk about the best of 3 and D.

That's right, the idea of players who shoot three pointers and play defense as an archetype

Where did it come from how old is it when did it you know become more valuable how many around in the league now

we're gonna get into all that kind of fun stuff historically we're gonna talk about the

best three and deep players over the last ten years or so what makes a good 3 and D player why it's so difficult to talk about a category

we have to disqualify people who are who are too good. Cody how are you feeling

about this one? I'm really excited about it because I feel like a few I feel like I heard more about three indie players a few years ago and it was like really sexy to get these guys and something that's really key about them is a lot of their impact metrics

really jump off the page like a really good 3D player you look at them it's like

oh like it's just like the 12th best player in the league like what's going

on right here but what's what's so interesting that we'll talk about a little bit is that they're super valuable

in their role, but that's about it. Like that is their role and they're really good at it and you

really can't expect them to move outside of that box and like you just said, what gets really tricky is some of these guys do. you really

tricky is some of these guys do in fact at one point because of

changing of a team changing of their context changing of their own skills

sort of graduate out of the three and

and they actually do showcase some of these other skills so it's going to be
