Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff.

Do you ever wonder how much we're actually in control of things in our lives?

Sometimes it really feels like we're in control. We set goals for ourselves, we pursue them, and we get them.

And that feeling of accomplishment feels so good.

For example, we may desire to go to university

when we're younger and after we get accepted and attend for four years or perhaps longer

we're standing up on the podium, receiving our degree, and feel like, yes, I did this. I'm in control of my universe.

Yet if we think about it, there's a lot of things that could have

prevented us from getting that degree. One of my best friends when he was

younger he was the eldest of a large family.

They didn't have much money, but he was able to get a full ride to the university

based on his academic success in high school.

Well, just before classes began in the fall,

his father loved the family and never came back. And because his family was already just making it, he had to give up his university degree and go get a job to help support his family so that they wouldn't end up destitute.

He was much later able to get his degree, but it was 20 years later,

instead of the four that would have occurred had his father not left.

So there's a lot of circumstances that allow us to reach our goals or not reach our goals.

Life isn't always treating us the same.

We may live in an environment where there is no chance of university work

because we have to work to help support our family or there

says chaos in our homes that the ability to concentrate and study become very challenging. Or let's say love, let's say we want to pursue
