Summary

Sachiko Komagata was grateful as a child growing up in Japan that her parents had not pressured her into a particular career, as many children’s parents did, but during her college undergraduate years the options ahead of her were limited to a few traditional occupations for women. In the U.S., her doctoral research explored a holistic approach to patient care in physical therapy. Since 2004, she has chaired the Department of Holistic Health Studies and Exercise Science at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, New Jersey.

1:03.2	born and raised in Japan and hailed to the U.S. after four years of college. With her master's
1:08.9	degree and license, she practiced physical therapy over a decade in
1:12.9	the Philadelphia suburb. Accumulating questions from her clinical work led her to pursue research,
1:18.2	and she received her Ph.D. from Temple University. Since 2004, she's been a college professor
1:23.5	in holistic health studies and chairs the Department of Holistic Health and Exercise Science
1:28.9	at Georgian Court University. Satchiko, that's a summary of your fascinating career. Tell our
1:35.6	listeners what you're up to now that has you engaged and excited if you would. Oh, sure. As Don
1:42.0	introduced me, thank you. I am at a college, four-year college, and teaching undergraduate and graduates holistic health students. Basically, what I accumulated in my clinical work in working in a hospital with people who have either experienced illness or injuries, how people heal from there.
2:04.0	Everything I have experienced previously seems to be feeding into what I do right now in
2:11.3	college teaching. And right now I do, well, basically as a college faculty, I teach classes.
