...time. My granny grew up in Ireland during the 1930s and moved over to the United States just after WW2.

She was quintessentially Irish, and although she'd never cared to make a return visit to

her small hometown in Schengarry, she often spoke of it fondly.

She said it was a wonderful place to grow up, with lots of open green fields for children to play in,

and the village seemed to be filled with all kinds of whimsical characters.

There was the priest, who once spent half a mass talking about how Jesus would have loved tea cakes,

the pub landlord, who once tried to ride a horse into his pub after winning it in a hurling bet,

and then the village drunk, whose singing voice was so beautiful that he managed to make a living by singing

dirges down at the village pub until closing time. The way she talked about Shannon Gary,
